Every rose has its thorn and Shadowmist is no exception.
But in Shadowmists case, its thorn comes in the form of
8ft tall smelly Troll!
Vile and evil are too nice of words to describe him.
There is no limit to the amount of trouble he's willing
to cause, and being in charge of an army of monsters,
he's quite capable of a lot. On top of having his
creatures occasionally pillage and loot villages;
he's kidnapped and ransomed the wife of a ruler,
assassinated a Chancellor of Shadowmist, replaced
said Chancellor with a doppelganger, and recently
orchestrated the theft of over half the kingdom's
treasury (a small detail that the heroes of Shadowmist
will certainly fix!).
Ironically enough, it is the kidnapping of the ruler's
wife mentioned above, that might also shed light on why
the rulers of Shadowmist aren't feverently hunting him
down. Ragnar, often called "Cyclops" because of his one
eye, was a horrible tyrant that once overthrew the rulers
of Shadowmist. Some say he was darker than Grum Grum.
This may be why Grum Grum saw Ragnar as threat. In any
case, Grum Grum helped overthrow Ragnar by arranging for
his wife's kidnapping (while she was safely at sea) and
by supplementing the old rulers rebel forces with the aid
of monsters!
Maybe the old rulers of Shadowmist felt they owe Grum Grum.
Or maybe they feel that if they chase off Grum Grum,
something worst may take his place. Or maybe the rulers of
Shadowmist just like to keep their friends close, and their
enemies closer.
But no matter what, all that is known is that Grum Grum is
here to stay!
