A relative newcommer to Shadowmist, Marcus came to Shadowmist Proper to join the Shadowmist Guard. He speaks little of his past, and won't say anything beyond that it's been hard. He refuses to talk about his father at all. Constantly moving from city to city with his mother, he's developed a soft spot for those less fortunate. For a good share of time, Marcus and his mother even traveled with Rolling Thunder. The happiest memories he can recall are during the time spent with two people he refers to as "Baro' Pen" and "Baro' Pral". When questioned about why he left, he avoids answering.

In his younger days, he was a stablehand in a mercinary guild. There he met a battle-hardened mercinary by the name of Marshal de Mongtiegn. Marshal, quite unknowingly, became his role model. Long after Marshal had left the guild, Marcus kept in touch with him. Eventually gaining a place in the mercinary guild, Marcus soon had a feeling of lacking in his new job. He felt that he wasn't doing enough good things, and often refrained from doing things that he felt was wrong. Eventually, this attitude got him removed from the mercinary guild.

Hearing so many good things about the Kingdom of Shadowmist from the many letters he exchanged with Marshal, Marcus decided to leave his mother behind and strike a living in the Shadowmist Guard.
