So you want the history of Ripley Chance... which one? There are two Ripley Chances!

The first one, which not much is known about, was a monk at the Abbey of St. Micheal. He was a quite one who was good with numbers. And it was because of his number crunching that the ruler's of Shadowmist, who had just taken their kingdom back by force from the evil Ragnar, chose him to be their Chancellor.

However unbeknownst to Ripley, it was a fatal decision. The fiend known as Grum Grum wanted a word in Shadowmist's politics. So to arrange this, Grum Grum had a doppelganger magically cooked up. The doppelganger, as Grum Grum commanded it too, ambushed and killed poor Ripley one dark night.

Of the course it should be no surprise what happened next. The doppelganger took the form of Ripley and assumed his position as Chancellor of Shadowmist. However the doppelganger is now and always will be a servant of his true master, Unofficial Emperor Grum Grum The Great!

Or is he? The magic used to bind the doppelganger's mind to Grum Grum is under constant strain due to the wild magic that infuses Shadowmist. The doppelganger is starting to gain his own free will and an evil soul to match Grum Grum's.
