Armor Rating and Utilization

How is armor rated?

The Champion must rate each individual piece of armor, with assistance from the Monarch and Guild Master of Reeves. The armor is then applied to the body, where upon each hit location (each arm, leg, and front/back torso) is given an armor rating based upon the collective average of each piece of armor that falls within the location that is being rated. Note: A piece of armor can span two hit locations, as you will see below. Note: Armor is averaged together based upon the armor rating of each piece of armor, multiplied by the decimal percentage of the total armor within the specified hit location. Each piece of armor is then totaled to determine the final value of all of the armor on that hit location. Note: Each hit location is assigned a single armor value. Any blow that hits a player's armor reduces the armor value of the entire hit location. Fractions are rounded up as follows: less than.75, round down. .75 or greater, round up.

EXAMPLE
Arm: Overlapping Scales, rated at 5 points. This piece represents 40% of the total armor on this hit location. Front/Back Torso: Overlapping Scales, rated at 5 points. This piece represents 100% of the total armor on this hit location (both front and back). No averaging required.
Arm: Plate Armor, rated at 6 points. This piece represents 60% of the total armor on this hit location.

Leg: Hard Leather, rated at 2 points. This piece represents 65% of the total armor on this hit location.
Leg: Plate Armor, rated at 6 points. This piece represents 35% of the total armor on this hit location.

Conclusion

Now that the armor value and percentages have been determined, the percentages must be converted to decimals and multiplied by the armors rating - then tallied together to determine the armor rating of each hit location.

Arm: Scales: (5 points) * (.40) = 2 points.
Arm: Plate Armor: (6 points) * (.60) = 3.6 points.
Arm Total: 5.6 points.
Leg: Hard Leather: (2 points) * (.65) = 1.3
Leg: Plate Armor: (6 points) * (.35) = 2.1
Leg Total: 3.4 points.

Note: All of the armor on the arm has a value of 5.6 points, and all of the armor on the leg has a value of 3.4 points. All of the armor on each hit location receives damage as if it were one continuous piece of armor.
